M. Wolf's Letter

March 2, 2002

Greetings!

Last night I was thinking of the picture of the "Smiling Jesus" that hung on my mothers wall many years ago before she passed away. I decided to do a web search and I was so happy to find you have one! I have a wonderful story to share about what the Smiling Jesus picture has meant to me over many years. I can't remember the date I actually saw it for the first time but probably in the early 1980's. I need to backtrack in order to tell you the whole story involving the print.

In the early 1970's after an evening revival meeting, my son and daughter and I arrived home and went to our own rooms but before we went to sleep we were singing the songs we had sung in church. At one point I heard a choir behind my head which was on the pillow! I was startled and asked the children if they were singing with me and they said they didn't know that song. Of course, I never forgot that experience! I couldn't tell you what the song was it happened so quickly.

It was a few years later (in the 1980's) when I was visiting my mother and she had the framed print on her living room wall. I fell in love with it as I never thought about Jesus laughing. She gave me the address where I could send for a print and postcards as thats what I wanted so I could share them with friends. When they arrived there was a verse printed on the back, it was Zephaniah 3:17 and I remember it to say: "Hark! Is that a choir I hear%3F No it is the Lord Himself rejoicing over you with singing!" I have never found exactually which version of the Bible that came from, but that is what is in my memory. So the verse on the back of the picture postcard connected me with the choir I heard.

For years I kept thinking of it as hearing a choir and thinking it must have been angels singing, but then it dawned on me finally that the verse says, ".....it is the LORD HIMSELF!" Isn't that just awesome to know the Lord rejoices over us HIMSELF and His voice sounds like a Choir%3F

Every now and then the Lord adds even more dimension to my insight about the choir that I heard. Two nights ago I was wondering that it must be the voice of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit combined ....the trinity!

My mother had a great sense of humor and there is a comical side to the Singing Jesus story also. My stepfather told her that Jesus NEVER smiled and she said: "He did TOO! He smiled ONCE and they took this picture!!!!"

I hope you enjoy reading what your picture has meant to me.

In Christ!
M. Wolf
