My husband is a pewtersmith and makes pewter holloware. He focuses on putting Christ in all his pieces and is given a chance to witness as he sells.

One bit of advice he received at his first art show was to show people how the pewter should be used and to set a dining room. We immediately began this and included a mantle to simulate a fireplace. With a sheet of plywood, we simulated a wall above the mantle. The wall screamed for a picture.

I had just received a color print of Jesus Laughing from my husband for Valentine's Day. In the early 80s, I had a pastor in Charlotte, North Carolina who had a very large black and white print. It was about 2 by 3 feet and it made a huge impression on me as a teenager. So to receive this for Valentines was a real treat. It was also the perfect picture for our booth. Many people hang paintings of their family, particularly patriarchs above the mantle. Why shouldn't ours be the head of our family%3F We have now done two shows with this new booth and the response has been incredible. We easily could have sold more of the Jesus Laughing prints than pewter! Most people pause and gaze at Him. Then turn and say, "I've never thought of Him that way." I know they leave seeing Christ and many say the print has made their day. It makes setting up the booth and the traveling all worthwhile whether we sell a piece of pewter or not.

The flip side is that despite 99% of the time it is a positive response, but there have been a couple who cannot handle Christ having been human and become angry at the thought of Him being anything but pious and stern. Their focus is on the power and sovereignty of God only.

We hope that if it is enough to bother them, they will discover the love of God also. We travel and display Jesus Laughing even more for these.
