I was raised in a very traditional type church, where there was a time and place for everything and things of a religious nature were to be taken seriously. Well, I have always seen the funny side of things and it irritated me that all the pictures of Jesus were so serious, woebegone or anemic looking. He always looked like Peewee Herman, or the classic 98 lb weakling on the beach. And never was he smiling. He was on a serious mission! Come one, Jesus was a carpenter who spent most of his time outside under a hot Israeli sun, dealing with foot-in-the-mouth Peter. Muscular arms, deep tan, belly laugh.

Kids loved him. Kids don't love sourpusses

I first saw the picture of Jesus laughing when our assistant pastor showed it to me several years ago. I immediately loved it. I have a sense of humor and have always felt that God does too. It was the kind of picture I'd been looking for all my life, but never thought I'd find. I sent and got some of the postcards and handed them out to everyone. Most people liked it but one person in particular didn't like it. Said they preferred pictures with him looking serious. Why%3F Why would you prefer a stone faced God over one who sees and puts humor in this thing called life, which we aren't going to get out of alive anyway%3F

Since seeing that picture I have become an avid collector of pictures with him laughing and with children. If Jesus didn't enjoy life, how can he tell us to rejoice%3F He said 'My joy I give unto you...' Joy means my face is going to look cheerful, like I believe Jesus' face did. Thanks for a great picture. It sends a better message than the constipated looking ones that were once the norm.
