The Story Behind The Book
Inspired by the painting Jesus Laughing, Vic Mars, a 77 year old retired telephone man living in Florida, made a special trip to the home of Praise Prints. He found the painting so unusual that he wanted to know why the artist portrayed him that way. What motivated the artist to do such a turnabout from the usual solemn Savior's countenance to the highly jovial.
Mars met with the painter and had several conversations, asking him those two key questions, taking notes all the time. One question led to another, and then another. The responses he was receiving from the painter interested him. Learning that nearly one million Jesus Laughing prints are in distribution, he was persuaded in still another direction, that of preserving the whole story for future generations to know.
It bothered Mars to feel in his soul that unless the history relating to Kozak's painting is placed in some permanent form, the facts behind it would be lost forever, consumed by the flames of time. Christians the world over deserve to know why at least one artist in the Twentieth Century believes the Savior, The Christ was a person with a sense of joy, and should be portrayed that way, so other Christians could relate with Him in that manner.
During these conversations, Mars read scores of testimonies which had been sent to The Kozak's, telling them how the painting has been meaningful to them, and how it has benefited, and in some cases healed, the blessed recipients of the painting.
After meeting with the painter Kozak, and knowing all that went in to his painting, Mars wanted to "write it up" in some form to be preserved. The Painter agreed. He, too, wanted his family to know the whole story. He asked Mars if he would put all the information together and assemble it in an easy-to-read form.
Mars took two years in the writing of his narrative, overcoming one obstacle after another including a computer crash and the Anthrax threat in Washington, when he mailed his book's transcript for the copyright.
It is now "finished." On Top of God's Mountain is now finished and available from Praise Prints
